Elections - wolves

Acts 20:29

For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

Thoughts on politics - now that the elections are upon us....

**Lots of folks are forced to skimp to support a government that won't.
**There's one thing the Democrats and Republicans share in common: Our money.
**New Latin motto for politicians: Veni, Vedi, Clinti--I came, I saw, I lied.
**A little girl asked her father, "Daddy? Do all Fairy Tales begin with'Once Upon A Time'?"
He replied, "No, there are Fairy Tales that begin with,'If elected I promise'."

About the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, in1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning ofhistory, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:"

1. From bondage to spiritual faith,
2. From spiritual faith to great courage,
3. From courage to liberty,
4. From liberty to abundance,
5. From abundance to complacency,
6. From complacency to apathy,
7. From apathy to dependence and,
8. From dependence back into bondage"

My question to you, this holiday weekend in 2006, is 'At what stage in this list would you place the United States today?' I say 5 or 6 to 7 sliding into 8

His reply:

and for the icing on the cake...

At the turn of the Century, one of the leading newspapers addressed the following question to many notable persons In Great Britain:

"What in your opinion is the chief danger, social or political, that confronts the coming century?"

Here is one of the responses:

"In answer to your enquiry, I consider that the chief dangers which confront the coming century will be:

  • religion without the Holy Ghost;
  • Christianity without Christ;
  • forgiveness without repentance;
  • salvation without regeneration;
  • politics without God; and
  • Heaven without Hell.

Why do I think of the Episcopal church after reading this...?

or the United Methodist for that matter...

Matthew 7:15

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither [can] a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
